Problems with the Spinal Column

Spina bifida - birth defect involving neural tube. The embryonic neural tube has an incomplete closure resulting in an incompletely formed spinal cord. The vertebrae overlying the open portion of the spinal cord are not fused allowing the abnormal portion of the spinal cord to stick out through the bones. Sometimes there is a fluid filled sac sticking out through the open bones.
