CSF LEAK!! Trauma- Car accident causing massive swelling to the brain and left orbit. Major swelling and pooling of clear liquid is a very bad sign.. In person you could probably tell the difference between pooling blood and the clear liquid. This means that fractures have gone straight through to the brain and CSF is leaking through. Immediate surgery is necessary.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!

Ouchy!! The saw went completely through the right orbit, rupturing, the globe and ethmoid bones into the brain!! He was okay, with no major problems after, just loss of his right eye!

What happens when the fridge breaks?

The surgeons that performed this brain surgery thought everything had gone rather smashing...that is until they made a small discovery. The refrigerator they had used to store the patients skull piece was BROKEN!! That's right, they spoiled his skull cap. So the smarty pants surgeons threw it out and gave him a new plastic prosthesis. The patient then got charged a little over four grand for the oopsie. When he asked why he got charged for the new hardware, he was told he got a sweet deal because apparently the plastic skullcap is better then the original. Go figure! mo

Polish man emerges from coma after 19 years.

After spending 19 years of his life in a coma, this Polish railway worker tries to get his life back. While attaching to train cars together, the man suffered head injuries and fell into a coma. At the time the head injuries were sustained, his doctors also discovered brain cancer. His wife was told the man would not survive, but she paid no attention and took him home to care for him.

DIY man survives nail gun shot into skull

This Kansas man and his neighbor were using a nail gun on garden decking. When the man's friend thought he had shot the nail into wood, the nail had disappeared. Both men thought the nail had been lost, until they nail was discovered sticking out of the man's baseball cap. Click on photo for full story.

Did you know that we have a brain awareness week? I looked on one of the sponsored websites for some info. The International Brain Research Organization website has an excellent booklet from the British Neuroscience Association that you can view on line or print out, it has pictures, explanations of how things work, as well as neat articles pertaining to the brain and nervous system. I highly recommend you check it out. The website specifically states that the purpose of this booklet was to raise public awareness and understanding of the brain and brain research, so as long as we don't sell it we're all free to look at it if you go to the link below you can select a specific chapter/subject to look at.

Pesticides 'can cause brain damage'

Researchers in the Netherlands have found that people exposed to pesticides are FIVE times more likely to suffer from mild brain problems compared with the general population. Cancer, infertility, physical abnormalities are among some of the effects of exposure to pesticides, which in many cases has solid evidence backing it up. Click here for more information. mo
