Interesting discussion--I missed this. I agree that hormone replacement therapy probably would not be the same as intact ovaries as far as pheromone production. My understanding is that human pheromones are still poorly understood. I think I mentioned my friend Sandy went on to study changes in male hormones during a wife's pregnancy. The more the husband was around, the more his hormones changed, but it was not clear whether this was due to effects of pheromones from the wife or just his own body's response to involvement in pregnancy. The next step would be to see if a volunteer male's hormones would change if he was getting a swab of axillary secretions daily from a pregnant woman!
