| Most people have never, in there lives, seen a natural unaltered, undeformed foot. Suprisingly a deformed foot is the result of wearing shoes on a regular basis. In 1905 a study was published in the American Journal of Orthopedic Surgery that examined the habitually bare feet of natives in the Phillipines and Central Africa. What was found, was that the foot could have a straight line drawn from the tip of the big toe, through the ball of the foot and continue through the heel. A wide base, creating better stability, was made by the smaller toes fanning out. | |
| | What is most common to see and have, are the feet af a person who has worn tight constricting shoes for most of their upright life. The feet are shaped like the shoe itself. Notice that unlike the unaltered foot, a line cannot be drawn from the tip of the big toe, through ball to the heel. This creates a much more unstable base than that of the image above. So why did we start wearing shoes? Well some might say for aesthetic reasons, to make the foot look more slender and "aristocratic".
