Half-Marathon Training

My sister and I started training for a half marathon about 3 weeks ago. As we've gotten into our longer runs for training (6-7 miles) three times a week, we've both been experiencing a lot of joint aches and pains. It's more than just the regular sore muscles that you expect when you run. For me I have aching pain in my right hip, and she gets it in her knees. Neither of us get shin splints, and we've gotten shoes specific to our style of running. Any more experienced runners have any way of avoiding or helping these sorts of aches?? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I take Glucosamine HCL with MSM for joint pain. It helps alot! I buy a big bottle from Costco. Glucosamine is a building block for cartilage, synovial fluid and other connective tissues. It promotes joint heath and mobility. Do you find this valuable?

I would talk to your doctor about it you could what they call a hair line fracture that is hard to see. Do you find this valuable?

When I ran cross country, I was told to drink a lot of water to help with joint and muscle pain. Running on surfaces like concrete and asphalt could be contributing to your problems. You could also try hot and cold therapy after your run. In sports, sometimes you will notice athletes icing their knees or elbows during time outs or breaks. Ice is not just for injuries, it can help joints after a hard workout too. I am no expert, but these are things that have helped me throughout the years playing a lot of sports. Do you find this valuable?

Drink extra fluids to keep your body hidrated. Also spend alot of time doing stretches to keep joints flexible, it will help more than you think. Avoid over working yourself. Joints are not easily repaired. Do you find this valuable?

Make sure you always warm and cool down with your long runs also make sure you are eating and drinking enough and not pushing your body to hard to fast, but that you are pushing yourself at a gradual pace. Also stretching alot helps. Regardless of what you do running is hard on your body. It has taken a toll on mine especially after I ran a marathon, but dont get me wrong I love running it is my favorite thing to do. Maybe you should look into a running training guide on the internet and that will help you to know how to train better and so also dont over do it too quickly.
